About the Artist
Elizabeth Brown is a California-based artist whose richly layered paintings explore the complexities and contradictions of the human condition. Her paintings inhabit a world where innocence and experience collide, and vulnerability becomes inseparable from power.
With an exuberant visual language of bold color, raw gesture, and enigmatic symbolism, Brown creates worlds where playfulness and darkness coexist. Her paintings probe the games people play, the role of chance and choice, and the often absurd nature of human behavior.
Themes of triumph, resurrection, and transcendence permeate her work—not through softness or grace, but through chaos, rebellion, and defiance. Part psychological landscape, part contemporary talisman, her paintings give form to the forces that shape and transform us.
Brown has a Bachelor of Arts in Art, Philosophy, and Astrophysics; a Masters in Psychology, and lives and works in Encinitas, California. Her work is held in public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Presented by Hotwater Gallery as part of ’TIL INFINITY, Brown's previously unseen work marks a rare introduction to an artist whose practice speaks to the restorative power of art and the beauty that can emerge from adversity.
