About the Artist

San Diego–based photographer Jen Rubin turns the open road into her studio, where Route 66 and forgotten byways become stages for cinematic reverie. Born and raised in Michigan—and a graduate of Central Michigan University in Photojournalism—her move west ignited a passionate obsession with the open road’s allure and the dreamlike nostalgia it carries.

Rubin’s style blends wistful Americana with a cinematic edge, capturing landscapes and roadside relics as if through a haze of memory. Her photographs distill the romance of the journey—neon motel signs, desert horizons, and tumbleweed towns—transforming overlooked places into portals for reflection. She was a featured artist in Hotwater Gallery’s 2024 exhibition TABULA RASA, where her work resonated as an invitation to wander, pause, and reimagine the lost corners of the American road.
